Come Home
Again

By Es Devlin

Powerhouse Parramatta Opening Festival x Sydney Chamber Opera

Sydney Chamber Opera is creating new work with acclaimed British artist Es Devlin as she presents her large-scale installation and choral performance, Come Home Again for the first time in Australia. Over 11 nights from 7 – 27 November, Come Home Again is an intimate and monumental installation integrating new music, drawing, sculpture and light, featuring 244 hand-drawn depictions of vulnerable, endangered, and critically endangered species from NSW.

We will perform two new compositions: Yuwaalaraay musician Nardi Simpson’s Stamus in Semper: We Stand on the Always responding to Anton Bruckner’s Locus iste (1869) and Jack Symonds’s Radiant River, responding to Locus iste and a Cantata originally commissioned for the opening of the Sydney International Exhibition in 1879 – as well as the birds of the Parramatta River. The performances also feature bespoke arrangements by Huw Belling incorporating Western Sydney choir River City Voices, intercultural singer collective Barayagal, and Noqu Vanua Choir, who will join us each night to perform the new musical commissions with 36 singers
